Kolkata Rape: TMC MP Alleges Conspiracy, Says CBI Trying To Bury Case (Photo )

After the Trinamool Congress yesterday criticised the CBI for failing to provide updates in the Kolkata rape and murder case, TMC MP Saket Gokhale today alleged that the central agency is trying to bury the case to help the BJP through a “carefully planted conspiracy theory.”

While handing over the case to the central probe agency, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanded it complete the investigation by August 18, and the lack of updates regarding the case has irked the ruling party in West Bengal, expressing their resentment at not receiving a single update in the case so far.

Notably, in a post on X today, the TMC Rajya Sabha MP accused the BJP of hijacking the “genuine protests and trying to topple the West Bengal government. “There has been complete silence on the case for six days, and a very dirty game seems to be unfolding right now,” he said.

Explaining how things are going wrong, Gokhale said that a few days ago, there was a rumour that “Kolkata Police cremated the RG Kar victim’s body without the parents, adding that the rumour was then demolished when the parents themselves said that they cremated the body. “Strangely, since yesterday, it is being planted again for a sinister reason,” the TMC MP said, noting that the Bengal Governor landed in Delhi last night to meet the President and Home Minister Amit Shah and the “hurried cremation” conspiracy theory was re-planted just when Governor left for Delhi.

In the follow-up posts, Gokhale describes how the turn of events. “It started yesterday at 11 am with a sudden news across media that ‘victim’s body was cremated hurriedly,” highlighting that it was said by CPI(M) leader and Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya out of the blue, and added he made the sensational claims which had been debunked. Saket Gokhale also pointed out that Bhattacharya made fake claims in this case before too.

“Bhattacharya alleged ‘150 gm semen found & gangrape is suspected’, but it was proved to be false later when the autopsy report was revealed.

“Then at 5 pm, 2 media channels ran the SAME word-to-word story within 30 mins of each other Suspiciously, Both India Today and Times Now repeated Bhattacharya’s claim & went to the cremation ground to ‘interview’ the same crematorium manager,” he noted, sharing the screenshots of the tweeting time.

The TMC MP then underlined that a known “BJP lackey reporter” ran another show with fake news claiming that RG Kar’s “victim was cremated just like the Hathras victim Truth”? He also shared the story headline ‘From Hathras to Kolkata, Cremation of the truth.’ Regarding the claim, Ghokale stated that the UP police cremated the Hathras victim without informing the family but the Kolkata victim was cremated by the family.

Recapping how the Kolkata case evolved, the TMC MP said that the police arrested the one accused within 12 hours of the incident and the case was handed to CBI on August 14. “CBI silent with ZERO updates for 6 days and no new suspect questioned or arrested,” the TMC leader said, adding that the DNA found on the victim matches the DNA of the arrested accused and yet the CBI has been unable to “find or has chosen NOT to look for any other accused.”

“CBI has concluded from evidence that the arrested man is the perpetrator Remember: For 5 days, CBI did not even do a polygraph of the accused,” Ghokale said, highlighting that the CBI custody of the accused expires tomorrow. “Despite this, until yesterday, CBI did not even request permission to conduct narco-analysis of the accused. Why did CBI wait till the last day? Today, SC will Suo Moto take up the RG Kar case where CBI will be questioned,” he stated.

In the follow-up post, the TMC MP said that as the CBI has no progress to show for 6 days, it’s simply going to bury the case by claiming: that the victim cremated hurriedly & we couldn’t examine the body,” adding that this is false because the parents cremated the body after the autopsy and forensic evidence was given to judicial magistrate.

The TMC leader further alleged that the CBI has an established track record of failing to investigate & file charges in time When the CBI couldn’t find evidence in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, they floated bizarre conspiracy theories “And since yesterday, they’re doing the same with RG Kar case.”

In the final post, Gokhale wrote that the chief minister has defeated the CPI(M) and the BJP many times, asserting that they are not bothered by the BJP’s toolkit.

“What makes us angry is CBI trying to bury the case and deny justice to the victim just to help BJP’s political agenda. We will not allow justice and the truth to be buried.” Gokhale concluded.

TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray demanded a custodial interrogation on Saturday from Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and RG Kar Medical College’s former principal Sandeep Ghosh. “Custodial interrogation of ex-Principal and Police Commissioner is a must to know who and why floated suicide story,” he said in a tweet.
