Meghalaya: Woman Thrashed In Public Alleging Extramarital Affair Claim; Five Held (Photo @MeghSoptlight)
A Meghalaya woman was dragged and beaten with sticks by a group of her relatives after she was accused of having an extramarital affair. As the video of the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday, the police filed a case against five persons involved in the torture, and all of them have been arrested under relevant sections, NorthEast Today reported, citing authorities.
The brutal incident happened in front of the residents of the remote village, Dadenggre, in the Lower Teksagre area of West Garo Hills district. The video of the event showed a group of men beating the young woman with sticks, holding her hair, as she was found on the ground in public.

The villagers, including other men, women, the elderly, and children, stood silently when the woman was attacked by the accused persons. The woman was beaten, alleging extramarital affairs, by the men.
Reacting to the incident, the chairperson of the Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment and Sutnga Saipung MLA, Santa Mary Shylla, said that she would demand the police chiefs of all 12 districts of the state to be more cautious on crimes against women.
