Ajeet Bharti, a Noida-based Youtuber, was issued a notice by the Karnataka Police on a complaint filed by BK Bopanna at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru on June 15. The complaint was regarding a video of the Youtuber featuring Congress leader Rahul Gandhi saying that the former Congress president was planning to rebuild the Babri Masjid in place of the Ram Mandir, which was built by demolishing the former.

Upon the complaint, an FIR was registered over the Youtuber’s video titled “Rahul Trying Hard To Fuel Fire, Naseer Wants Modi in Skull Cap”. The FIR was lodged under Sections 153 (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505(2) (statements creating or promoting enmity) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to the notice as the video allegedly intended to create feelings of enmity, hatred, and ill-will between communities.

Interestingly, the YouTuber said that three men claiming to be from Karnataka Police came to serve him notice.

In a post his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Ajeet Bharti wrote, “At around 2 o’clock, three young men claiming to be Karnataka Police came to my house and said that they have come to deliver a notice. I asked, did you inform the Noida police? He asked, which is the local police station? I immediately informed the local police officer and two Uttar Pradesh police vehicles arrived soon. They talked to the young men from Bangalore and then took them away with them. We are very grateful to the local police for their prompt assistance.”

The men, who came to serve notice were reportedly not in uniform when they hey reached Bharti’s house, Hindustan Times reported. “Our team also reached the house soon and the Karnataka Police left after serving the notice. Usually, it’s a procedure that any visiting police team informs their local counterparts but that did not happen in this case,” NDTV quoted a UP police officer as saying.

However, the Karnataka police have directed Ajeet Bharti to appear before the investigating officer at the High Grounds Police Station within seven days of receiving the notice.
