Outrage Over Arrested Vadodara Road Rage Accused Giving Interviews

Gujarat, Vadodara: Outrage has been mounting against the accused in the Vadodara road rage incident, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, for ‘giving interviews’ to the media. Chaurasia is now in police custody and was arrested after his speeding car rammed into five people in Vadodara, Gujarat on Thursday, killing a woman and leaving others seriously injured.

In the latest interview the accused gave to the news agency ANI, he was seen justifying the accident, explaining the circumstances. The accused denied that he was drunk during the incident and claimed that the accident occurred when his view was blocked by the emergency airbag. He also denied that he was in high speed.

“We were going ahead of the scoot, we were turning right and there was a pothole in the road. There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right,” Chaurasia said, adding that the car then slightly touched the other vehicle and the airbag opened suddenly. He then claimed that with this, their vision was hampered, and the car went out of control, causing the accident.

“We were going at 50 km/hour. There were no people at that time, just a scooter and a car… I had no idea. I did not go to any parties. I went for Holika Dahan and was not drunk… Today, I was told that one woman has died, and a few have sustained injuries. “I want to meet the families of the victims. “It is my fault and whatever they want, that should happen…” the accused was heard saying in a video shared by ANI.

However, video from the crash site had showed the youth visibly heavily drunk. Chaurasia was seen coming out of the car following the accident and shouting “another round” even as the injured were lying scattered on the ground. The video also showed the car running at a higher speed – against his claims to the media.

Notably, there was another bite of the accused person talking to the media regarding the circumstances of the accident earlier too. Many in the comment section got infuriated over the back to back interview of the accused, asking why there were no interviews from the victims or their families.

A user, Safah Bashir, wrote that the ANI is “shamelessly taking bites from the accused while no bites from victim.” Noting that the news agency has become a matter of shame in the name of journalism, the user pointed out that the victims deserve more sympathy than accused. “However if the accused was a Muslim ANI would have taken bytes from victim,” Bashir added.

Another user Dr Khatra wondered how an accused in custody had been granted permission to give an interview to ANI. “It’s worth noting that his father may have connections within the BJP, and as a Brahmin, he could enjoy certain privileges in Modi’s New India,” the user wrote on X.

Many questioned the way police are handling such cases, given the facilitation of the purported efforts to save the accused from similar instances. Some users observed that the accused at least showed the responsibility not to run away, unlike most of the hit-and-run cases.  “Owning up to mistakes is the bare minimum, but real accountability means accepting legal consequences, not just offering an apology after the damage is done,” opined a user, bold bhartiya.
