Paracetamol, Shelcal 500 Among Drugs Failed CDSCO Quality Test

The Central Drug Regulatory Authority (CDRA) had raised concerns regarding the quality of frequently used pharmaceuticals products in the market. In the troubling findings, the CDRA has found 49 drugs have failed to meet the quality standards out of nearly 3000 samples across the nation.

The monthly assessment conducted is part of CDRA’s routine surveillance aimed at ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medicines available at Indian market.

The drugs that were classified under Not Of Standard Quality includes familiar medications such as Paracetamol, Oxytocin and fluconazole.

Out of approximately 3000 samples, only 1.5 % were found to be substandard.

The other widely used medicines which were included in the list are Metronidazole tablets by Hindustan Antibiotics, Domperidone tablets by Rainbow Life Sciences, and Oxytocin injections by Pushkar Pharma. In addition to these, the list featured Metformin tablets from Swiss Biotech Parentarels, Calcium 500 mg with Vitamin D3 tablets by Life Max Cancer Laboratories, and PAN 40 by Alkem Labs.

The Drug Controller General of India Dr Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi said that the NSQ drugs had failed “in some of the specified… quality parameters”. “And then there are four spurious drugs. These have not been manufactured by the brands that have been mentioned on the packaging,” he said. All medicines named in the NSQ list do not have any quality problem. Only the medicine manufactured by the particular company and the particular batch mentioned in the list has failed on quality parameters,” Raghuvanshi added.
