Pune: Couple Thrown into Air as Speeding Car Hits Bike from Behind

Adding one more case to the recurrent road mishaps in Maharashtra’s Pune, a speeding car rammed a bike carrying a couple. The video, doing the rounds on social media, shows the couple being flung into the air due to the intensity of the speed of the vehicle.

The incident happened on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan highway in Pune on Thursday. However, though the video showed a tragic and disturbing visuals of the accident, the couple miraculously escaped the fatalities. They are being treated in a hospital, and the condition is said to be stable, according to the police.

The police have launched an investigation and registered a case against the car driver.

Pune has been witnessing high-profile hit-and-run cases for the past couple of months. The accident involving a speeding Porsche driven by a businessman’s son had triggered nationwide protests, with people closely following the developments in the case, mired by manipulative reports to save the minor boy from legal repercussions amid allegations of alcohol influence while his driving. Two young engineers lives were lost in the tragic incident that happened on May 19.

In another tragic hit-and-run case in the city, Saurabh Gaikwad, son of former corporator and NCP leader Bandu Gaikwad, hit his speeding SUV into a poultry tempo. Police had found that Saurabh Gaikwad was driving on the wrong side when the collision occurred, and it was also reported that the accused driver was drunk while driving.

However, the series of mishaps highlight the increasing reckless driving among people under the influence of alcohol, unchecked by police.
