Samajwadi Party's Krishna Devi Sivshankar Wins Banda Constituency

Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Krishna Devi Sivshankar paved her way to the parliament by accumulating a total of 4,06004 votes from the Banda Constituency. The SP candidate was pitted against BJP’s sitting MP RK Singh Patel. RK Singh Patel garnered 3,34,807 votes.

RK Singh had emerged victorious from Banda under BJP ticket in 2019 by securing 46.2% votes against Shyama Charan Gupta of SP. His political career has passed through different parties in various periods. He was a member of SP and BSP. He was the MP of Banda in 2009 on the banner of SP, defeating BSP by a margin of 35493 votes. He shifted to BSP before 2014 election as he was denied to participate the election on the banner of SP. He joined BJP before the assembly election in 2017.

Krishna Devi Shivshankar Patel is the SP candidate. The SP-Congress coalition were at the forefront of this election to assure the victory. Mayank Dwivedi is the BSP candidate.

Banda is an important constituency where  the caste politics dominates the political landscape. Brahmin and Kurmi castes have a decisive role in the major electorate.

In 2014, Bhairon Prasad Mishra won by receiving 342066 votes defeating the current candidate RK Singh who was the nominee of BSP. In 2019, RK Singh was on the banner of BJP clinched the victory by receiving 477926 votes against Shyam Charan of SP who received 418988 votes. RK Singh won with a margin of 58938 votes. Congress was pushed to third positions.
