For the first time, the Volkswagen entry-level EV has been formally teased before its launch. The German manufacturer is launching a new all-electric car that will replace the now-canceled Up hatchback. Positioned beneath the Volkswagen ID.2all hatchback will be this new Volkswagen EV. This new electric vehicle, which is anticipated to be a five-door variant with a slightly elevated posture and body cladding to give it some muscle, is likely to be dubbed ID.One or ID.1. By 2027, the brand’s inventory of all-electric vehicles will have grown to include nine additional models.
In addition to an illuminated VW emblem, the teaser has rectangular headlights with 3D LED graphics elegantly merged in the black grille. The base EV also has slightly contoured fenders and narrow vertical DRLs on the front bumper. The MEB platform, which is shared by the ID.2all hatchback but will be shorter, will serve as the foundation for this new entry-level VW EV. The smaller EV is probably going to have a single engine and a modest battery pack in order to save money. It is anticipated that the entry-level Skoda and Seat EVs targeted for the European market would also employ the same chassis and drivetrain.

“An affordable, high-quality, and profitable electric Volkswagen from Europe for Europe: that’s the Champions League of automotive engineering!” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, in celebration of the new vehicle, which he described as a turning point for the firm. The production site for the entry-level Volkswagen EV has not yet been decided. The Volkswagen Group will construct the ID.2all and ID.2X crossovers in Spain in addition to the Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq SUVs. Kai Grünitz, the head of technological development at Volkswagen, has previously hinted that the new entry model will look a lot like the current Up hatchback and share some of its features and design characteristics.
Despite the lack of information on the arrival of this entry-level VW EV in India, the German company is trying to introduce EVs to the market using a customized version of the CMP design. A small electric SUV and a midsize SUV are planned as part of the IMP, or “India Main Platform,” for EVs, which is a variation on the CMP (China Main Platform) with significant localized components. Development of the IMP has already started.
