Volkswagen Tera Entry Level SUV Will Be Made In Brazil

The Tera, Volkswagen’s newest entry-level SUV, was formally revealed in Brazil. The vehicle’s appearance and interior were shown at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, marking the much-awaited unveiling. Volkswagen has not yet revealed the engine specifics and technical parameters, though.

Design Inspired by Larger SUVs

The Volkswagen Tera’s design is influenced by that of the Tiguan, its bigger sister. Its narrow headlights at the front have a bold two-part LED DRL signature, and the bumper is finished in contrasting black to give it a rough appearance. Its aggressive appearance is enhanced by the grille and air intakes at the edges. Its SUV stance is improved by robust fenders and a powerful shoulder line. From the side, the roof and the A- and B-pillars have a striking black finish that gives the impression of a floating roof. Its expensive aspect is further enhanced by the bumpers’ glossy black highlights and the stubby tail lamps at the back that are joined by a black trim.

Modern Interior with Familiar VW Elements

Inside, the Tera follows Volkswagen’s latest design language, sharing similarities with compact models like the India-spec Taigun. The steering wheel, centre console, and touch-based HVAC panel all resemble those seen in other VW models. However, a key difference is the free-standing touchscreen infotainment system instead of an integrated dashboard unit.

In terms of features, the Tera comes well-equipped with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package, enhancing both convenience and safety.

Platform and Engine Options

The Tera is underpinned by the MQB A0 platform, which is different from the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform. This is the same architecture used in the latest-generation Polo sold overseas, suggesting that the Tera will measure slightly above 4 meters in length. While Volkswagen has not revealed the exact engine options, it is expected to share the Polo’s 1.0-litre TSI petrol and flex-fuel engine choices in Brazil.

No Plans for India

Volkswagen has confirmed that the Tera is designed and developed entirely in Brazil and will be produced there. While it will be exported to Latin American and African markets, there are currently no plans to launch the SUV in India.
