Volkswagen, which has lined up multiple electric models at various price points for global debuts, is now looking to bring in more entry-level EVs for the masses. The first among these would be the ID.2, which will have a more conventional with modern design, similar to the German brand’s ICE-powered models.
The future design direction taken by Volkswagen will ensure its all-electric ID range will look less different from the rest of its line-up. Volkswagen will also continue to invest in ICE architectures and technology and a date shall soon be announced. The future of electric vehicle is bright but the ICE market globally is still that big which can’t be put to an end abruptly. The VW group has been hinting towards more convergence in the styling of ICE cars and EVs. The first example of this is set to be the production version of the Golf sizedID.2 all concept, which has styling that’s more in line with traditional VWs than the EV models.

This raises the potential for two models in VW’s Golf range, one would be an ICE car called Golf built on a traditional architecture and an EV called ID Golf, styled similarly on an EV-specific architecture. For the next launches, customers will see much more clarity in the way Volkswagen vehicles are designed. The ID badge will not be dropped completely, even if the designs and names of their EVs converge on something more traditionally VW. Volkswagen was now investigating extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) hybrid technology after its recent surge in popularity in China.
The Volkswagen brand is continuing the success story of its compact cars in the age of electric mobility and is providing a first glimpse of an all-electric Volkswagen costing less as compared to other countries with the ID. 2all concept car. The concept car would have front-wheel drive, range of up to 450 km, innovative technological features such as Travel Assist, IQ.LIGHT or Electric Vehicle Route Planner and a new Volkswagen design language. The production version will be based on the MEB Entry platform and is one of ten new electric models that Volkswagen will launch by 2026.
