Blog: Beyond Sightseeing - How Gen Z and Modern Explorers Redefining Travel
Gen Z travellers are driving major change in how the journey is perceived. The new generation desires to experience nature closely and gives significant importance to their travel preferences. Reading and traveling are more than just pastimes; they are enormous classrooms that have the power to change someone’s perspective on the world. Travelling is more than just sightseeing; it’s an exploration of people’s lives.
A person starts to think more extensively when they venture outside their own territory. Through travel, people’s viewpoints begin to change, helping them evolve toward a more fulfilling life. Every generation approaches travel differently. We have evolved from a time when reaching a destination took days to an era where transportation facilities let us arrive within hours.

For Gen-Z travellers, tours are not just about sightseeing; rather, it is about adventure expedition and self-discovery. They place great importance on personal growth and new experiences. Consequently, no previous generation has embraced solo travel as passionately as Gen Z has. This tendency clearly reflects their desire to explore the world on their own.
Travel is an evolving process from time immemorial. For centuries, scholars made constant journeys to carry messages and spread knowledge across borders. The trips, which could last for months or years, played a big role in the intellectual and cultural strength of many civilisations.
One of the towering figures in travel history is Ibn Battuta, the famous 14th-century Moroccan scholar-explorer.
At the age of 21, Ibn Battuta began his pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city in Islam. What started as a single trip became a lifelong odyssey; over the next 29 years, he covered about 120,000 kilometers (75,000 miles) documenting his travels across the Islamic world, Africa and Asia.
There are still students in the twenty-first century who use their travels as enlightening research. A new generation of tourists travels to discover the uniqueness of various locations and to impart that knowledge to others. They document the sites and experiences they visit, research the local environment, and share their findings with society.

Both the traveler and the reader gain a great deal of knowledge. Through books about politics and lengthy train rides with a variety of individuals and experiences.
Books like Karakkam by Abreeda Banu and Amina: To & From Delhi serve as examples of this. Traveling is about the lives that are found there, not simply the scenery. Abreeda Banu, Hanna Mehthar, and numerous more have traveled to comprehend these lives and viewpoints. This is a kind of development, a movement to use the lessons discovered along the way to bring the stories of individual lives into society’s consciousness.
Traveling and reading about various cultures enables an individual to perpetually transform themselves.
While books furnish us with knowledge, travel converts that knowledge into experiential reality. Every journey concludes not with our former selves but as a transformed individual—one who perceives the world with enhanced compassion and heightened political consciousness.
