In a milestone knock, India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli hit his 50th century in the World Cup semifinal match against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
With his 50th century, Virat Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, making the most number of ODI (One Day International) centuries in his name.
Most runs in a single ODI World Cup edition are also being registered in the name of Kohli, as he leapfrogged Sachin Tendulkar with 673 runs.
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Virat Kohli for surpassing his record of the most ODI centuries in cricket.
Tendulkar fondly recalled his first encounter with Kohli in the Indian dressing room, where the young prodigy was pranked by his teammates into touching Tendulkar’s feet. “I couldn’t stop laughing that day,” Tendulkar reminisced. “But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill.”
The Master Blaster expressed immense pride in witnessing Kohli’s growth and transformation into a world-class player. “I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player,” Tendulkar remarked with admiration.
Tendulkar further emphasized his joy in seeing an Indian cricketer claim the record for the most ODI centuries. “I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record,” he asserted. “And to do it on the biggest stage – in the World Cup Semi-final – and at my home ground is the icing on the cake.”
