India outshined on the 8th day of Hangzhou Asian Games bagging 15 medals which includes 3 gold and seven silver. India track and field athletes contributed the greatest number of medals in the later half of the day which boosted India’s tally to 53 on Sunday.

Avinash Sable won India’s first track and field gold medal at Asian games. He comfortably raced to India’s first men’s 3000m steeplechase gold medal at the continental meet. At the same time, shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor pulled off a big final round throw to defend his title on a medal -laden day for India at the Asian Games. Toor became the fourth Indian shot putter to defend his Asian Games gold medal

Jyothi Yarraji clinched women’s 100m silver after China’s Wu Yanni was disqualified, who originally finished second  for a false start. Harmilan Bains in women”s 1500m and Murali Sreeshankar in men”s long jump also won silver. Bronze medal was won by Jinson Johnson (men”s 1500m) and Chenai (men”s trap). Surprisingly, world champion Nikhat Zareen could only manage to win bronze, she went down fighting in the semi-finals against Thailand’s Rakshat Chuthamat.

Earlier, India clinched gold in the men”s trap team shooting event on Day 8 of the ongoing Asian Games 2023. Aditi Ashok created history after bagging silver in the women’s individual event. She became the first Indian women to win a medal at the Asian games golf tournament.

Shooters won three more medals and finished the Hangzhou campaign with a record of 22 medals, the highest shooting in a single edition for India.

While the Indian men’s badminton team claimed their maiden silver medal after losing the final for 3-2 against China.

Also, Amlan Borgohain qualified for the men”s 200m final. Parveen built on her form and defeated Uzbekistan”s Sitora in the women”s 57kg boxing quarterfinal and now guarantees a medal for India. Women’s hockey team were held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea.
