Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam surpassed the likes of Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle to become the fastest batter to reach 10,000 T20 runs. Azam is the fastest to reach the milestone in all three terms – matches, innings, and time taken. He achieved this milestone during his 72-ball knock in his team Peshwar Zalmi”s seven-wicket loss against Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League.
Babar raced to the milestone in 281 matches, 271 innings and 11 years and 82 days. Meanwhile, the West Indies legend achieved the feat in 85 innings, 290 matches, and 11 years and 215 days. The run machine Kohli had reached his milestone in 299 innings, 314 matches, and 14 years and 176 days. Azam was only six runs short of achieving the milestone.
The Azam-led Peshwar Zalmi side were bundled out for 152 runs after being put into bat. Azam was the only batter to score a half-century in the innings while Rovman Powell (39) and Asif Ali (23) made important contributions. Mir Hazma and Hasan Ali scalped three wickets each.
Kieron Pollard (49 not out) and James Vince 38 (not out) played quick fire cameos to help Karachi Kings chase down the target with 29 balls to spare. England medium pacer was the pick of the bowlers for Peshwar Zalmi as he picked up two early wickets but his effort went in-vain.
