The IPL 2024 concluded with Kolkata Knight Riders winning the title for the third time. The KKR won the match by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets on Sunday, May 26. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the prize money for the IPL 2024 champions with the prize pool of Rs 46.5 crore.
Meanwhile, SRH who has come second has received an amount of Rs 13 crore. The total prize money which was reserved for the occasion was an amount of Rs 46.5 crore and this wasn’t only distributed among the winners and runner-ups.
Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers of Bengaluru who came third and fourth were also given a fair amount of the prize money. Sanju Samson’s side received Rs 7 crore, meanwhile, RCB got Rs 6.5 crore.
Ever since the Indian Premiere League was launched in 2008, the perception of the game completely changed, and along with it there came a significant change in the prize money as well. The winning side received a prize amount of Rs 4.8 crore while the runner-up received Rs 2.4 crore in the first couple of editions, in 2008 and 2009.
With DLF as its title sponsor and several top cooperates backing the league, IPL continues to be the premier tournament in the world offering the highest prize money of Rs 20 crore for the winning team and Rs 12.5 crore for the runner-up.
The batter with the highest run is awarded with Orange cap while the bowler claiming the most number of wickets is given with Purple Cap. They both receive an equal amount of money.
In this IPL season, Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap with 741 runs and Punjab King’s Harshal Patel won the Purple Cap for taking 24 wickets this season. Each was awarded with an amount of Rs 10 Lakh.
The Emerging player of the tournament, Nitish Kumar Reddy got an amount of Rs 10 Lakh, and the most valuable player, Sunil Narine received Rs 10 Lakh as well.
The other awards which too come with a prize money of Rs 10 Lakh are Power Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season and Game Changer of the Season.
