India began its World Cup campaign by winning against Australia at Chennai by displaying mind-blowing performances with both ball and bat. Soon after their victory opening, legendry cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to the X congratulating the Indian team for their exemptional performance.

But he expressed his surprise when Australia chose to bat first. They were restricted to just 199 runs by Indian spinners. He further added that the Aussies missed the left-arm spinner in Ashton Agar who was earlier ruled out of the tournament with a lingering calf problem.

“I was surprised to see Australia bat first after winning the toss. Commendable performance by the Indian bowlers to restrict them to 199. Australia started well but I felt they missed a left-arm spinner on this surface,” he said.

He also took this opportunity to drop a special mention on the record stand between Kohli and Rahul after forging a pivotal 165-run partnership which helped India rise to victory.

“The partnership between Virat and Rahul sealed the game for us. They very smartly took their time and were able to execute some superb shots. The ball surely came onto the bat much better in the second half of the game. Congratulations to #TeamIndia on a good start,” he added.

Virat Kohli added another milestone as he broke Tendulkar’s stunning record during the match. Kohli scored a gritty half-century to guide India to victory and in the process, became the highest run-scorer for the Indian cricket team in ICC limited-over tournaments. Kohli now has 2785 runs in 64 appearances. The record previously belonged to Tendulkar who scored 2718 runs in 58 appearances.

India for its second match will face Afghanistan on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
