One-time champions Gujarat Titans (GT) will wear the lavender kit in their final home match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 13 to show solidarity towards the fight against cancer.
Incidentally, the franchise had taken the same initiative in the last edition of the lucrative tournament. This initiative aims to highlight the critical issue of cancer, which continues to be a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality in India and worldwide.
The choice of lavender, a colour symbolising all types of cancer, serves as a powerful reminder of the many lives affected by this devastating disease. By wearing lavender jerseys, Gujarat Titans aim to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention, emphasising the crucial role that lifestyle changes can play in combating cancer.
“As sportspersons, we are aware of our social responsibility to our fans and the community at large. Wearing these lavender jerseys unites us with cancer fighters and honours their courage. Together, we hope that our efforts will contribute to a world where the burden of cancer can be overcome through awareness and education,” Shubman Gill siad.
“The Gujarat Titans are taking a stand against cancer, stepping onto the field donning special lavender jerseys for the second year in a row. The players will showcase their commitment to the fight against cancer during their final home game on May 13, 2024. This gesture will serve as a reminder of the importance of early detection and access to quality care for improving outcomes in patients of cancer,” Gujarat Titans said in a statement.
Gujarat Titans are currently languishing at the bottom of the table with four wins in 11 matches.
