The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, a dress rehearsal for most players ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in June, has witnessed record-breaking performances. The ongoing season has been dominated by the batters, recording the most 200+ runs scored in both innings following the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday.
Asked to bat, DC piled up a total of 221 runs with openers Jake Fraser-McGurk (50) and Abishek Porel (65) top-scoring for the side. In response, RR managed to score 201/8 after their captain Sanju Samson”s match-winning effort of 86 runs went in vain.
“I think we had it in our hands, it was like 11-12 runs per over, it was achievable, but these things happen in IPL. Yes, we are doing both the things fine, we will like to stick to what the conditions demand, 220 was 10 runs extra to chase, if we had conceded a couple of less boundaries, we would have made it through,” RR captain Samson said after the match.
Incidentally, it was the 13th time in the ongoing season of the lucrative tournament that a 200+ score was recorded in both the innings. It surpassed the tally of 2023 when a total of over 200 was achieved in both innings 12 times. The milestone goes on to show how the batting standard has evolved in IPL over the years.
In 2022, the milestone was achieved five times while it was set four times in 2008, 2010, 2018, 2020, thrice in 2014, 2021, twice in 2017, 2019 and once in 2011, 2012 and 2016. There has been no such incidents recorded in 2009, 2013 and 2015.
