The Indian Premier League (IPL) retention rules are set to be released during the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru, on September, as per a report in Cricbuzz.
As per the IPL owners and officials, the announcement of the rules could be deferred till the end of this month. Speculation is rife around the announcement with the news around the IPL officials’ circle stating that the Indian Cricket Board might release the new set of rules within 10 days.
Notably, there is no direct link between the AGM and IPL policies, with the Indian Cricket Board to surprise with the announcement in the next few days.
The Indian Cricket Board was originally set to announce the policy by August end after stating the same during the IPL owners meeting in Mumbai. New retention rules might allow the franchises to finalize their retention rules till November 15. It is likely that the auction will take place in December with the Right-To-Match (RTM) feature.
All the IPL franchise owners and co-owners attended the meeting that went late into the night, as per media reports. While most of them were present in person for the meeting, five-time champions Mumbai Indians’ owners, attended the conference virtually from Paris.
