The Badminton World Federation announced on Sunday that Lakshya Sen’s victory over Guatemalan player Kevin Cordon was ‘deleted’ from consideration for the final standings.
The decision was followed by the withdrawal of Cordon from the Paris Olympics 2024 due to a left elbow injury.

Lakshya is playing at his first Olympic games and the match against Cordon saw him take an 11-3 lead at one stage against the Guatemalan player. Lakshya’s ranking will be now based on results from his remaining Group L matches. He will compete against Julian Carragi on July 29.
As per the BWF rules, the withdrawal of the Guatemalan single’s player Cordon means that his remaining Group L match against Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie scheduled to be held on Monday and Julian Carraggi of Belgium on Wednesday will not be played.
BWF has said that all the matches on these courts in each respective session have been rescheduled. As per the rule, in the group stage play, the results of all matches played or yet to be played, involving Cordon in Group L are now considered to be deleted.
The rule states that: “If illness, injury, disqualification or other unavoidable hindrance prevents a Player/pair competing all the group matches, all the results of the Player/pair shall be deleted. Retiring during a match shall be considered to be not completing all group matches”.
Other than Laskshya, even Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered the same fate as they are not playing their second group game on Monday. The match was canceled following Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel’s withdrawal from the competition as the former suffered a knee injury. This will result in the nullification of the second game for Satwik-Chirag.
