Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans made a bold political statement during the Champions League final on Saturday night, unfurling a large banner that read “Stop genocide in Gaza.” The banner was raised shortly after Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring in PSG’s commanding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan.
The act of solidarity was far from isolated. Throughout the match, supporters in the stands were seen waving Palestinian flags, donning keffiyehs, and holding placards denouncing the ongoing assault in Gaza. Chants of “Nous sommes tous les enfants de Gaza” (“We are all the children of Gaza”) echoed through the stadium.

PSG fans have previously expressed support for Palestinians. During a Champions League match against Arsenal in November, they displayed a large banner reading “Free Palestine.” The demonstration drew criticism from French authorities, with Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau calling the banner “unacceptable.”
Saturday’s display comes amid a deepening humanitarian’ crisis in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s nearly three-month blockade has pushed the enclave’s population of over two million to the brink of famine. The UN World Food Programme has warned that the risk of starvation is extremely high.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 54,418 Palestinians have been killed and 124,190 wounded since Israel launched its offensive in October 2023.

While the gesture by PSG fans received wide support online, it may lead to repercussions. UEFA regulations strictly prohibit the use of gestures, words, or banners considered political, ideological, religious, or offensive in nature. Financial penalties are standard, with fines of up to €10,000 ($10,700) typically imposed for first offenses involving political displays.
