Though Real Madrid had a tough night against Borussia Dortmund, they managed to lift the Champions League trophy at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night. The Los Blancos have won their 15th title making yet another illustrious history. The sensational header by Dani Carvajal and another goal by Vinicius Jr gave the team a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund had outshined in the match, but they couldn’t outperform Madrid. However, Real Madrid with last night’s win has proven that they are a ruthless winning machine when it comes to the Champions League. Carlo Ancelotti wrote history with his fifth win as a coach in the competition.

Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi missed two first-half chances and striker Niclas Fullkrug hit the post. Just like in previous competitions this season, Real stumbles in the first half as they were pinned back by the approach of Dortmund.

Dortmund throughout the game created a number of chances but crucially wasted it. They have gone into the games as heavy underdogs. However, the team was backed by their noisy and colourful fans in the stadium. Despite their loss, the fans gave the team a standing ovation after the final whistle as a reward for their efforts. This was the second time, the team lost their chance to win the title after their defeat against Bayern Munich in 2013.

Dortmund having only won the competition once before in 1997 was the first time appearing in the finals after 11 years.
The team deserved more than losing the Champions League final to an ice-cold Real Madrid, said team manager Edin Terzic after the game. “We did so many things right, but they were ice cold at the right moment, which is what we lacked today,” he added.
