13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made the headlines even before the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During the second and final day of the IPL auction in Jeddah, Vaibhav became the youngest cricketer ever to be picked by a franchise as Rajasthan Royals brought him for Rs 1.10 crore.

Meanwhile, controversy erupted about the age of the player as many of them alleged that the cricketer is 15 years old instead of his declared age of 13 years, 288 days.

However, his father Sanjiv Suryavanshi has come forward tackling the allegations and stated that Vaibhav had undergone a BCCI bone test at the age of 8 and a half and that he is happy to undergo age test.

“He is not just my son now but entire Bihar’s son,” Sanjiv said over the phone as his son is currently in Dubai for the U-19 Asia Cup.

“My son has worked hard. At the age of 8 years, he excelled at U-19 district trials. I would take him for his cricket coaching to Samastipur and then take him back”, he further added.

While talking about the financial trouble he had faced, he said that he had to sell his land. And reflecting on his journey, he further went on to say that at the age of 8, Vaibhav had excelled at U-16 district trials and he had taken him for his cricket coaching to Samastipur and then took him back.

Vaibhav was called for trials by the Rajasthan Royals in Nagpur. And he was given the task by Vikram Rathour, the batting coach to score 17 in an over. “He smashed three sixes. At trials, he hit eight sixes and four fours,” the father claimed proudly.

Vaibhav’s base price in the auction was Rs 30 lakh and Delhi Capital made the opening bid. RR entered the fray at Rs 35 lakh and eventually got the better of DC to get the player on board.
