Vinfast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle maker is aiming to set an India base as a part of its global strategy. The VinFast group is an all-rounder. From technology to real estate, the automative company has its hands everywhere.
Vingroup started the company in 2017. Pham Nhat Vuong, a Vietnamese based billionaire owns the company. And it belonged to one of the largest conglomerate in Vietnam. The company”s headquarters is in Singapore. The company started with selling Chevrolet cars in Vietnam by partnering with General Motors.
VinFast has already started hiring for several positions in India. Reports say that the company is fastening its work and will begin the “operations” from next year onwards. Few months back, VinFast 8 was tested in India, says AUTOCAR.
Though VinFast may not find challenges from Tesla with their “special concessions”, the product itself may carry the weight of concerns. Feedbacks and opinions from United States indicates that results are “far from encouraging”. The feedback says that the car appears to be a “work in progress” adhering to its software and “fit and finish” aspects.
Report says that VinFast has made an enquiry about Ford”s Chennai factory and their talks may be at “preliminary stage”. Ford India has a 2.1 lakh capacity. The spokesperson of Ford said “we continue to explore alternatives for the Chennai plant and have nothing further to add”. VinFast is likely to acquire the Ford”s Chennai factory at a lesser capacity.
VinFast is not only aiming to “carter to the domestic market” in India but also to carter for right-hand-drive markets in India later.
