VVS Laxman Next Indian Head Coach After Rahul Dravid: Report

Rahul David“s contract as the head coach of the Indian cricket team ended after India”s shocking exit from World Cup 2023 after losing against Australia at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. The former Indian captain was appointed as the head coach after Ravi Shastri in November 2021. VVS Laxman is expected to replace the current head coach.

As per the NDTV report, Rahul Dravid is not keen on extending the contract as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman is likely to take over from him. Laxman has already been named as the coach for the matches against Australia in T20I series which is scheduled to begin on Thursday. Dravid was appointed as the head coach after India”s world cup campaign came to an early end in the T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Previously, Laxman was the interim head coach of the Indian cricket team during the tour of Ireland and the white ball series against New Zealand last year. As per the report, Laxman has travelled to Ahmedabad to meet the BCCI officials in this regard. It is more likely that the former Indian captain will sign a long-time contract as the Team India coach. And it is certain that he will travel with the team for the upcoming South Africa tour and this will be his first as the full-time India head coach.

While under the guidance of Dravid, the Indian team reached the finals of the ICC World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup, but unfortunately the team was beaten down by Australia in both the matches. They also reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year, but was taken down by England. However, India won its eighth Asian Cup under the guideship of Dravid.

The future of the other coaching staff of the Indian cricket team so far has no clarity. Vikram Rathour (batting coach), Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach), and T Dilip (fielding coach) are also out of contract now, reports Firstpost.
