The tech world is waiting for the launch of the much-anticipated Apple Vision Pro headsets. The iPhone Maker”s first mixed reality headset will hit the US market on Friday, February 2. Ahead of the launch, MacRumors has reported that Apple has sold around 200,000 Vision Pro headsets since preorders started.
On January 22, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimated that Apple sold 160,000 to 180,000 Vision Pro headsets during the first pre-order weekend. Ming-Chi Kuo also mentioned in his blog post that Vision Pro sold out immediately after the pre-order started, with delivery times for all models extending to 5–7 weeks within hours. Notably, Apple began accepting pre-orders for Vision Pro on January 19 in the US.
According to Apple, “Vision Pro is a revolutionary spatial computer that transforms how people work, collaborate, connect, relive memories, and enjoy entertainment.” The pricing of this AR headset, powered by visionOS, starts at $3,499 for the base model with 256GB of storage. The 512GB and 1TB storage options of this Apple device are priced at $3,699 and $3,899, respectively.
The tech giant claims that the Vision Pro is equipped with ultra-high-resolution displays that deliver more pixels than a 4K TV. It uses micro-OLED technology to pack 23 million pixels into two displays. The device permits users to interact through their eyes, gestures, and voice. “Intuitive gestures allow users to interact with apps by simply looking at them, tapping their fingers to select, flicking their wrist to scroll, or using a virtual keyboard or dictation to type,” said the iPhone maker in a statement on January 8. Apple also mentioned that more than 1 million apps across iOS and iPadOS are available on Apple Vision Pro.
Apple introduced the Vision Pro during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2023. Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier claimed that this device is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created. Notably, according to the IDC report, shipments of AR and VR headsets are expected to grow 46.4 percent this year.
