Apple Considering Potential Acquisitions Of Mistral AI or Perplexity: Report

According to a report from The Information, Apple has held internal discussions about the possibility of acquiring French AI startup Mistral AI or Perplexity in their aim to acquire more secure position in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Apple is lagging behind Google and Samsung in implementing AI features on its devices. This warranted the tech giant to look elsewhere.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has announced a new strategy for Apple last month. The company, which has historically been very careful about buying other firms, is now willing to open to major AI-related acquisitions to accelerate its progress.

However, Reuters could not confirm the details of the report. Apple, Mistral, and Perplexity all declined or did not provide an immediate response to Reuters’ requests for comment.

Perplexity, a company backed by Nvidia and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, stated that they are unaware of any merger talks involving the company, apart from its own acquisitions.

According to a recent Financial Times report, Mistral, the French company backed by Nvidia, is in discussions to raise $1 billion, which would give it a valuation of $10 billion. And this would be a major increase from the more than $6 billion valuation it reached after its Series B funding round last year.
