ChatGPT Voice Chat Feature Now Available To All Free Users

Amid the leadership chaos, OpenAI announced that ChatGPT”s voice chat feature is now available to all users. The voice interaction feature helps users initiate voice conversations with ChatGPT and receive voice responses. This feature, which was first rolled out in September, was initially available to only ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise subscribers.

“ChatGPT with voice is now available to all free users. Download the app on your phone and tap the headphones icon to start a conversation,” wrote the company on its X handle on November 22 while making this significant announcement. OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman has also announced on his X handle that the voice chat feature is now rolling out to all free users on mobile. The latest feature is available in the ChatGPT app on both iOS and Android smartphones. To use the voice chat feature, ChatGPT users need to head to Settings and then click on the New Features on the mobile app and opt into voice conversations. Then, users are required to tap the headphone button placed in the top-right corner of the home screen and choose the preferred voice out of five different voices. This includes Sky, Ember, Breeze, Juniper, and Cove.

In September, OpenAI announced that the voice chat feature, which is powered by a text-to-speech model, has the ability to generate human-like audio from just text and a few seconds of sample speech. The company said that they have collaborated with professional voice actors to create each of the voices. “We also use Whisper, our open-source speech recognition system, to transcribe your spoken words into text,” mentioned OpenAI on its blog post in September.
