Sam Altman And Greg Brockman Joins Microsoft

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made an important announcement today, November 20, that Open AI”s former CEO Sam Altman and former president Greg Brockman will join Microsoft. Satya Nadella also added that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman will lead a new team for advanced research in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Satya Nadella”s major announcement came days after OpenAI”s unexpected decision to dismiss Altman. “We remain committed to our partnership with OpenAI and have confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue to innovate with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support our customers and partners,” said Satya Nadella on his X handle on Monday. Satya Nadella also added that Microsoft is looking forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and OpenAI”s new leadership team. Notably, Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear confirmed his new role as OpenAI”s new CEO.

“And we’re extremely excited to share the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success,” added the Microsoft CEO. Sam Altman also shared Satya Nadella”s post and wrote, “The mission continues.” In another post on X, Satya Nadella said that Sam Altman will be the CEO of the new in-house group. Earlier, there were speculations that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman would return to OpenAI. Sam Altman was sacked by OpenAI’s board of directors on Friday, November 17. OpenAI stated that Sam Altman was removed from the leadership role as he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board.

Meanwhile, Emmett Shear, OpenAI”s new boss, called the job a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”. While confirming the new position, Emmet Shear wrote on X, “After consulting with my family and reflecting on it for just a few hours, I accepted.” Emmet Shear also added that the process and communications around Sam Altman”s removal have been handled very badly, which has damaged OpenAI”s trust.
