A surprising twist has emerged in the JioHotstar controversy as Dubai siblings, 13-year-old Jainam and 10-year-old Jivika who bought the domain from a Delhi app developer are now willing to give it to Reliance Industries for free. They announced it through their YouTube channel JJMission Diary on Sunday.
The story began when an app developer bought the JioHotstar domain, expecting a merger between Jio Cinema and Hotstar. He wanted to sell it to Reliance for Rs 1 crore to fund his studies at Cambridge University.
In an open letter to Reliance Industries executives, the app developer offered to transfer the JioHotstar domain in exchange for funding his overseas education.
He explained that his interest in the domain stemmed from a 2023 news article suggesting Disney+ Hotstar’s potential merger or sale to an Indian competitor after losing IPL streaming rights. However, Reliance refused to entertain any deal. Furthermore, the company has decided to pursue legal action against him.

The developer then sold the domain to Jainam and Jivika who claimed they bought it to help him and they didn’t disclose the amount. Now, the siblings have updated the website stating they’re willing to give the domain to Reliance for free.
Jainam and Jivika explained that they never intended to sell the domain for money. They wanted to support the developer and share their “seva” (service) journey. They also said that they received many emails from people offering large sums, but they didn’t want to sell.
“We think it’s best for Team Reliance to have this domain. We’re happy to give it to them for free, with proper paperwork.” No one from Reliance or any legal group has contacted us or pressured us. We made this decision on our own,” they added However, Reliance didn’t reply to the video or respond with any comments yet.
