TRG Data Centers, a US-based tech firm, conducted a survey recently and revealed that Instagram was the platform that users were most eager to delete in 2023. This has been a surprising finding, as Instagram has been the most popular and influential social media app for years. This news also got a reaction from Elon Musk, the owner of X.

Billionaire Elon Musk took to his X handle on February 16 and wrote “Interesting” while reposting an X user”s post. Notably, the X post highlighted a Google search showing “most deleted app 2023,” and it pointed at the Meta platform Instagram. Meanwhile, the TRG Data Centers report mentioned that over 1 million people worldwide searched for ‘how to delete (my) Instagram account’ each month in 2023. This data amounts to over 12,500 searches per 100,000 people globally. However, the report stated that the app still boasts 2 billion users worldwide.

At the same time, this is not the first time Elon Musk is taking a jibe at the photo-video sharing platform. In July 2023, the Tesla chief took a dig at Instagram shortly after the launch of Threads. Meta’s Threads is a rival to X. “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter, than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram,” said Elon Musk as a reply to a tweet about Musk deleting his Instagram account in 2018.

It is worth mentioning that the conflict between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg escalated when Meta launched Threads. In November 2023, Elon Musk took another dig at Meta’s platform. On that occasion, Elon Musk compared Zuckerberg”s Instagram to an adult content platform.
