G20 Summit: Telcos Promise No Call Drops, 5G Coverage For All

Preparations for the G20 summit in Delhi have focused on ensuring seamless digital connectivity, with significant efforts from telecom companies and infrastructure providers. Over the past few days, the number of 5G BTS (Base Transceiver Station) sites in Delhi has nearly doubled to 10,662 to meet the increased demand. Additionally, the city”s 23,000 telecom towers are fully operational during the event. Leading telecom providers, Airtel and Jio, have undertaken measures to enhance network quality, and a special task force has been put on standby to address any network issues.

The G20 summit have drawn thousands of delegates and heads of state to Delhi, emphasising the need for robust digital connectivity. Telecom companies have worked diligently to address potential network gaps. TR Dua, the Director General of the Digital Infrastructure Providers’ Association, highlighted the deployment of network enhancement measures, including faster deployment of Small Cells at intervals of every 200 meters.

Further, telecom infrastructure providers have committed to ensuring the readiness of all telecom towers for the G20 Summit. TR Dua emphasised the critical importance of providing uninterrupted digital communication services, with backup plans in place for any unforeseen circumstances.

Within Jio, a comprehensive strategy has been pursued to improve service quality. This includes deploying additional fibre lines and internal cells at summit locations, enhancing outdoor connectivity from the airport to summit venues, and optimising networks for hotels and government buildings hosting the delegates.

Airtel has also expressed its readiness for the G20 summit, affirming that network enhancements have been made across the national capital, especially in key summit venues, hotels, restaurants, and major tourist destinations. A dedicated task force is in place and will remain on standby throughout the summit.

Notably, communication network services have been classified as “exempted essential services” by the government, enabling telecom companies to deploy engineering teams swiftly to address technical difficulties, particularly in sensitive areas where tight security protocols are in effect. With the arrival of thousands of delegates and 25 heads of state for the G20 summit in Delhi, telecom companies and network infrastructure providers have taken proactive measures to bolster their capacities and address network blackspots.
