Google, the American multinational technology company, announced its new program named DigiKavach to Indian users to prevent online financial frauds and ensure them safety. The declaration came in the recently concluded Google for India 2023 event, an annual function took place at the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Through the introduction of DigiKavach, Google is solidifying their commitment to safeguard or digitally shield users from scams, malware, and online frauds. This will also enable a trustworthy and reliable digital environment where people are able to depend internet in all aspects of life, explained Sanjay Gupta, Country Head and Vice President of Google India.

According to Mr Gupta, the newly recognised program is set to resist online financial frauds at large scale. For the smooth enactment of the plan, Google has to analyse the methods and modus operandi of scammers, and countermeasures to new emerging scams should be administered.

The project will be launched in India as a pilot project, and once the viability of the idea is proved, the model will be implemented in other countries also. Saikat Mitra, the vice president and head of trust and safety, at APAC, said that the program was born out of the concern to keep India’s 1 billion people safe, reported the Hindustan Times. As he further explained, the initial part is based upon “our technology in our advancements, in AI and ML, which allows us to create really effective and fullest extent intelligence”.

On production, Google collaborates with the Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE). The FACE is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of consumer lending fintech, financial technology, companies. The organization is said to support Google with “market intelligence to inform detection and enable swift action against person loan apps in India non-complaint with Play Store’s policies”, said Sanjay Gupta in an official statement. Google is also working with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), created strong partnership with these government agencies and will ensure a transparent flow of information.
