Google Unveils First 'G' Logo Redesign In A Decade: Here's What's New (Image: X/CharlesPattson)
After nearly a decade, Google has quietly rolled out a refreshed version of its iconic ‘G’ logo, marking the first major update since 2015.
The subtle but significant redesign swaps out four familiar solid colour segments for a more modern, gradient look.
First spotted on the Google app for iOS and Pixel devices, the new logo features a smoother blend of the company’s signature colours, red, yellow, green, and blue, rather than clearly defined blocks.
Red now fades into yellow, yellow into green, and green into blue, creating a vibrant, fluid appearance that better aligns with Google’s evolving design language.
The update echoes the gradient style in Google’s Gemini branding, part of the company’s growing push into AI and more dynamic user interfaces.

While the change may be easy to miss at a glance, especially when viewed as a small icon as it represents a larger shift toward a more unified and visually polished ecosystem.
The original ‘G’ icon design was introduced in September 2015 alongside a full rebrand of the Google logo using the Product Sans typeface. That circular ‘G’ has since become one of the most recognisable digital icons worldwide.
As of now, the updated ‘G’ logo is live on iOS and has started rolling out via beta updates on Android. However, it has yet to appear on the web version of Google or across other key services like Chrome or Maps.

There’s no official word yet on whether Google plans to refresh its full wordmark logo or other product icons in a similar style.
Still, this redesign is likely the first step in a broader visual update across Google’s products, as the company continues to refine its brand identity in the age of AI.
