Meta recently announced that Instagram users will be able to access new Direct Messaging (DM) features. Meta says that the new DM features will help Instagram users better connect with friends and organize their inbox. The latest update includes an option to edit messages, read receipts, and chat pinning.
The edit option for messages is one of the notable features in Meta”s latest announcement. From now on, Instagram users will be able to edit a message for up to 15 minutes after it has been sent. “To make a change, press and hold on the sent message, then choose “edit” from the dropdown menu,” added the tech giant in a blog post.
The option to pin up to three messages to the top of the inbox is another new feature. This chat pinning feature is expected to be useful for Instagram users for prioritising conversations with family, best friends, or those that users wish to access easily. To move a chat to the top of the inbox, users are required to swipe left or tap and hold on the chat, then tap “pin.” Notably, users can also unpin a thread at any time.
Instagram has also updated the read receipts option. Users will now have the ability to choose to turn read receipts on or off for all of their chats or specific ones. Instagram users can adjust this important setting in their account settings under “Messages and story replies.” The popular Meta-owned platform now also permits users to save their favorite stickers in DMs. Users can press and hold on the sticker they want to save for quick access. Meta also announced that Instagram users can now reply to messages with GIFs, stickers, photos, videos, and voice messages.
It is worth mentioning that the platform has also incorporated themes into DMs. To change the theme for a chat, users need to tap the chat name up top, navigate into themes, and select one of the themes available.
