US Is Not A Doormat: Trump Threatens Tariffs On Countries With Digital Taxes

In a statement on Monday, President Donald Trump threatened that he intends to impose new tariffs and export restrictions on countries  that, according to him, are targeting US technology companies.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Donald Trump accused new European digital tax policies and regulations of unfairly targeting major American tech firms like Google (Alphabet), Meta (Facebook), Apple, and Amazon. He claimed these policies exempted Chinese tech giants.

“As the President of the United States, I will stand up to countries that attack our incredible American tech companies,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“Digital taxes, digital services legislation, and digital markets regulations are all designed to harm, or discriminate against, American technology. They also, outrageously, give a complete pass to China’s largest tech companies. This must end, and end NOW!,” he added.

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA) are two major legislation introduced by the European Union (EU) to regulate the digital space regarding competition and content moderation.

“America, and American Technology Companies, are neither the ‘piggy bank’ nor the ‘doormat’ of the world any longer. Show respect to America and our amazing tech companies or, consider the consequences!” Trump further added.
