Abu Dhabi Scraps Minimum Speed Limit On Sheikh Muhammed Bin Rashid Road
Abu Dhabi authorities have removed the minimum speed limit of 120 km/hr on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road. This road has the significance of connecting it with the Dubai Emirate.
Abu Dhabi Mobility, the emirate’s transport authority, has said that the decision aims to enhance road safety and facilitate smoother movement for heavy vehicles along the E311 route.

Since April 2023, the minimum speed requirement was applied to drivers who were driving in the first and second lanes from the left. Motorists who failed to comply with the rules were charged with Dhs 400. At that time, the third and final lane was designated for heavy vehicles and these lanes were exempt from the minimum speed restrictions.
“As part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety and ease the movement of heavy vehicles, the minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road (E311) has been removed,” Abu Dhabi Mobility announced on social media. “The decision is expected to enhance traffic flow and create a safer driving environment for all road users,” it added.
However, the road’s maximum speed limit of 140 kmph remains in place. Abu Dhabi Police had previously elaborated on the introduction of the minimum speed rule, aiming to prevent slow driving in the fast lanes, which may reduce instances of tailgating, which can lead to serious accidents.
