Indian celebrities have finally managed to speak on behalf of Palestinians after seven months of deafening silence. Several stars from the country including Madhuri Dixit Nene, Dulquer Salmaan, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Varun Dhawan, and Sonam Kapoor has joined the “All Eyes On Rafah” trend which has been widely circulating through social media platforms since Israel committed a ‘massacre’ on May 26th, by bombing Tel al-Sultan neighbourhood, burning alive over 45 Palestinians. So far, nearly hundred Indian actors, filmmakers and other film personalities has joined trend.

Kareena Kapoor, who has been made the National Ambassador of Unicef shared words of Catherine Russell, UNICEF Executive Director’s words calling for “an immediate ceasefire, unconditional release of all hostages and an end to the senseless killing of children”.

Actors like Richa Chadha and Amy Jackson wrote extended note on Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and called for ceasefire. Amy Jackson said the world has lost its moral compass, as media outlets and film festivals pledged to silence the outcries against genocide. She said, “We demand a CEASEFIRE. Do not stay silent. Do not let our governments distract from the torture the Palestinian people face. There is NO JUSTIFICATION for the murder of innocent men, women, and children”.

Richa Chadha called Israeli’s atrocities against Palestinians as a “cold-blooded murder”, and said that “Israel is committing a settler colonial genocide” on Palestine.

More than 35.6 million people on Instagram has made the “All Eyes On Rafah” graphics as their story. #AllEyesOnRafah have millions of views and more than 195,000 posts on TikTok.

The slogan All Eyes On Rafah seems to form from a comment by Rick Peeperkorn, the director of World Health Organization’s Office of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. He made the remark in February days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu order to evacuate the southern city of Gaz Strip, that shares border with Egypt.

The phrase as a warning of “unfathomable catastrophe”, and a request for the onlookers across the globe to not look away from Rafah, where more than 1.4 million displaced Palestinians have sought refuge, as Israel continued to bomb the place.

The phrase was then taken up by several organizations like Justice in Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace, Oxfam, and Palestine Solidarity Campaign. It was adopted by the pro-Palestine supporters across the globe as their rallying cry.
