'Genocidal Intent, Not Miscalculations': Iran FM On US-Israeli Attacks Including Minab School Strike

Tehran, Iran: Iranian foreign minister Araghchi delivered a powerful speech at the Emergency UN Human Rights Council session on Friday, March 27, on the attack on Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab.

Stating that Iran is under an illegal war imposed by the US and Israel ‘two nuclear-armed aggressor regimes,’ the foreign minister said the war is unjustified and brutally ruthless. He pointed out that the attack began on February 28 when diplomatic talks with the US on its alleged concerns over Iran’s nuclear program were going on, sabotaging negotiations for the second time in nine months.

Araghchi said that the attack deliberately targeted Shajareh Tayybeh Elementary School in Minab, killing over 175 students and teachers in a premeditated act of violence. “This attack represents only the visible tip of a larger pattern: systematic human rights violations, impunity for crimes, and flagrant disregard for international law,” he added.

The minister pointed out despite possessing advanced technology to hit precisely on targets, the attack on the school is intentional, constituting a war crime and a crime against humanity.

“Condemnation of such attacks is a moral imperative, beyond legal obligations, to defend innocent civilians and uphold human conscience,” highlighting that the Shajareh Tayybeh is not the only victim as over 600 other schools across Iran have been damaged, leaving more than 1,000 students and teachers dead or injured.

“Aggressors have also targeted hospitals, ambulances, medical personnel, Red Crescent workers, refineries, water resources, and residential areas, showing complete disregard for civilians,” Araghchi said, underlining that the scale and pattern of attacks suggest genocidal intent, not mere miscalculations.

“Global silence in prior conflicts (Palestine, Lebanon, etc.) enabled this aggression; indifference only increases insecurity and rights violations.  The UN and international community are urged to condemn these crimes and hold the aggressors accountable, affirming that humanity will not tolerate impunity, the foreign minister added. noting that Iran seeks peace but will defend itself.

The Iranian leader further asserted that the Iranian people, heirs to a rich civilization, remain committed to protecting civilians and national sovereignty.
