Israeli air-strikes on Sunday reportedly hit two of Syria’s main airports – Damascus International and Aleppo International. The attack is part of the ongoing Israel-Palestine war. The humanitarian catastrophe has already entered its 15th day and Syria is a West Asian Arab republic which borders Israel, Iraq, and Lebanon in various directions. The attack was disclosed by the Syrian state media and the airports were said out of service after hit by the strikes.

Damascus International Airport, located at the capital of Syria is the major and busiest airfields of the country, while Aleppo serves as a secondary hub for Syrian Air and Cham Wings. As the Economic Times reports, the transport ministry of the country has already re-routed the flights to Latakia, the principal port city of Syria. It is the second time Syrian facilities are experiencing a blow from the Israeli strikes after the commencement of Hamas-Israel conflict on October 7. The current incident has prompted the authorities to control their aircrafts grounded. They are not allowed for take-off unless an instruction from the government releases.

The attack as said by the state news agency SANA was happened early in the morning of Sunday around 5.25 am. They have reported that the “Israeli enemy carried out… an air attack”, and was successful in targeting the major Syrian airports. It left a civilian worker dead and another injured. Some material damages to the airport are also traced out leaving the functions out of service.

As Economic Times quotes the country’s military source, “simultaneous” strikes came “from the direction of the Mediterranean west of Latakia and from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan”. Syria faced the first attack on October 12. They were targeted to the Aleppo airport and left five people wounded.

Israel and Syria face tensions each other since more than a decade and by this time Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes to Syria. The strikes primarily targets the Iran-backed forces and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters along with Syrian army position – all three supports Palestine and Hamas in the prevailing conflict against Israel.
