Gaza: As Israel continues its months-long blockage of Gaza apart from the incessant bombing across the strip, at least 326 Palestinians have been starved to death due to the Jewish nation’s “starvation policy”, Al Jazeera reports citing Gaza authorities.  The UN on Thursday had warned that over 14,000 babies are at the risk of dying within 48 hours due to Israel’s blockage of Gaza.

Though the Jewish nation allowed limited humanitarian aid to the strip due to public as well as foreign pressure, the UN called the move a drop in the ocean of what is urgently needed, suggesting the aid allowed was totally insufficient for around 2.1 million Palestinians in the war-torn territory.

Amid the looming famine, visuals aired by Al Jazeera show children overwhelmingly crowding to get the remains of food grains at the distribution sites, showing the miserable plight of lives in Gaza, most of which has been reduced to rubble by Israel’s relentless attacks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his decision to temporarily let in a minimal amount of food was due to pressure from allies in the US Senate, making it obvious that it is just to appease his weapons’ suppliers.

Breaking the ceasefire deal, Israel launched a surprise attack which included airstrikes across Gaza, killing over 400, vowing to expand its operations in the strip and forcing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes. Netanyahu has declared to seize all the Strip, making it clear that the ultimate result of this will be the “forcible expulsion of Palestinians” from Gaza.

Analysts are concerned about Netanyahu’s plan for Gaza amid widespread displacement, starvation and continuous killing by constant bombardment. Countries including Britain, France and Canada have threatened Israel with sanctions if it continues its blockage of the strip. The EU has decided to review Article 2 of its free trade agreement, signed in 2000 with Israel.
