With day to day attacks and targeting assassinations happening in the West Asia for the last one week, a significant escalation of the region’s ongoing conflicts involving various players is expected in West Asia. In the light of Israel’s Beirut bombings and assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, Embassy of India in Beirut has advised Indian nationals against travelling to Lebanon till further notice.

The Embassy has also advised all Indian nationals to leave Lebanon.

“Those who remain for any reason are advised to exercise extreme caution, restrict their movements and remain in contact with Embassy of India in Beirut through their email id: cons.beirut@mea.gov.in or the emergency phone number +96176860128,” as statement from the Indian Embassy said.

Tensions in the West Asia have escalated, with Israel’s conflict with Hamas drawing in Iran-backed groups like Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis since the deadly airstrikes and ground invasion started in October 2023 following a surprise attack by Gaza-based resistance group in Israeli territories.

On July 27, rockets hit the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, killing 12, in an attack attributed to Hezbollah. In retaliation, Israel struck southern Beirut on July 30, killing senior Hezbollah official Fuad Shukr. On July 31, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran, with Hamas and Iran blaming Israel, though no official confirmation was given yet.
