Israeli Strike In Lebanon Kills Journalist Amal Khalil, Wounds Accompanying Photographer

Beirut, Lebanon: Israeli strike has killed Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil. The strike on the southern Lebanon also wounded a photographer accompanying the reporter, Al-Akhbar newspaper reported citing a senior Lebanese military official.

The 43-year-old Khalil died in the strike despite a 10-day ceasefire was announced on April 16 to halt hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.

Israel has confirmed that it received reports that two journalists were killed in its attacks on southern Lebanon. The Lebanese journalist had said that she received direct threats targeting her on her phone from the Mossad, and from Israeli threatening to kill her.

After striking her location, Khalil was reportedly trapped under the rubble in Al-Tiri in South Lebanon and Israeli army prevented rescue teams from reaching her.

Khalil and her colleague Zeinab Faraj were reporting in the southern town of al-Tiri when an Israeli strike hit nearby. As per some sources, Khalil ran into a nearby house and shared her location with officials so rescuers could reach her. Rescuers arrived, pulled out the injured Faraj, but came under Israeli fire before they could get to Khalil. Then the Israel struck the exact same house she was hiding in. 

Khalil was later found dead under the rubble.
