Walkie-Talkies Explode Across Lebanon: Report

A series of explosions rocked Lebanon on Wednesday, with walkie-talkies identified as the devices responsible for the blasts, according to multiple reports. Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV revealed that the wireless devices exploded in the hands of those carrying them across various Lebanese areas, with the southern suburbs of Beirut particularly affected.

The explosions follow Tuesday’s devastating incident in which pagers detonated simultaneously, killing 12 people and wounding thousands. While Hezbollah has blamed Israel for the attacks, Israel has refrained from commenting on the matter.

Reports from CNN suggest that between 15 to 20 explosions were recorded in southern Beirut, and a similar number of blasts occurred in southern Lebanon. These walkie-talkies were allegedly distributed among individuals organising events such as funerals and marches, leading to the widespread impact.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) confirmed fatalities in Sohmor, Bekaa Valley, where three people lost their lives due to these wireless device explosions. Emergency services have been responding to various locations, with the Lebanese Army advising citizens to avoid affected areas to allow medical teams to access the wounded.

Images captured by Reuters show emergency responders arriving in Sidon, while Agence France Presse (AFP) video footage depicts people fleeing for safety in Beirut. The exact number of casualties from these explosions is still unknown.

This series of blasts follows Hezbollah’s pledge to retaliate against Israel, whom they hold responsible for Tuesday’s pager explosions. The group has since launched rocket attacks on Israeli artillery positions, heightening fears of escalating violence in the region.

The situation remains tense as Lebanon braces for further incidents, with the international community closely monitoring the developments.
