Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday told the United States that he opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state after the war in Gaza. In a nationally broadcast news conference on Thursday, Netanyahu pledged to continue with the offensive on Gaza till they achieve victory over Hamas.

Netanyahu said that Israel needs security control over all territory west of the Jordan River. “This collides with the idea of sovereignty,” he added.

Following Netanyahu’s comments, US National Security Advisor John Kirby said that there would be no reoccupation of Gaza after the war and US continues to stand with the idea of a two-state solution. But he added that despite differences of opinion between the US and Israel, “our support for Israel remains ironclad”.

Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that there would be “no security and stability in the region” without the “establishment of an independent Palestinian state”.

His comments came after Benjamin Netanyahu’s fiery speech on the war in Gaza. Abbas’s spokesperson said that peace would only come about after the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, reports Al Jazeera.

He also added that the entire region is on the verge of volcanic eruption due to the aggressive policies pursued by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.

Israel Prime Minister in his heated speech said the war on the Palestinian territory “will not stop” until the Israel forces are completely victorious in the war on Gaza.

“I say this again so that no one will be in doubt: We are striving for total victory, not just ‘to strike Hamas’ or ‘to hurt Hamas’, not ‘another round with Hamas’, but total victory over Hamas,” he said.

Netanyahu repeated “total victory” eight times in his fiery speech.

Near total-telecommunication blackout in the Gaza Strip enters to its seventh day. While Israeli forces continue to carry out 15 massacres killing 172 people and wounding 326 in just 24 hours time period, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said. The communication blackout has hampered aid agencies from accurately reporting the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

In a post on social media, the ministry asked how much more Palestinian “blood and lives” must be lost for other countries to recognize the urgent need for a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, despite Israel’s claim that they have cleared the northern part of the Palestinian territory of Hamas, Palestinian fighters continue to attack Israel forces in northern Gaza.

So far, at least 24,620 people have been killed and 61,830 wounded in Israel”s offensive in Gaza since October 7.
