Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the incumbent minister of foreign affairs and former Saudi ambassador to Germany is one of the politician and member of the kingdom’s royal family, the House of Saud. After serving as a foreign diplomate for a short period, King Salman, through a royal degree, appointed Prince Faisal bin Farhan as foreign minister in 2019.
Born in West Germany, prince Faisal bin Farhan spent a significant part of his childhood and youth adulthood in the European country. Before joining the politics, Faisal worked in several companies including the aerospace and weapons sector, aiding him to be an expert in defense sector. He has chaired a United State-Saudi joint venture with the aerospace company Boeing. The prince also kept a good relationship with the kingdom’s powerful de-facto ruler crown prince Muhammed Bin Salman.

Under the foreign minister, several initiative including the much much discussed normalisation talks with Israel. The Kingdom had reportedly proposed for a peace deal with Palestinians for any normalisation with the Jewish state.
Prince Faisal is also credited to initiate the stalled peace talks with Iran, aiming at improving its relationship with the Islamic republic in 2022, and both the countries announced their plan for the resumption of diplomatic relationship in 2023, serving to ease the Iran-Saudi proxy conflict in the West Asia.

In 2023, Prince Faisal took part in a BRICS foreign Ministers’ Meeting in South Africa, and later in 2024 the kingdom officially announced joining the bloc for strategic and economic stability in the region. Notably, since the Israeli aggression in Gaza since October 7 after resistant group Hamas carried out a cross-border attack in Israel, the normalisation with Israel has been called off, with the foreign minister saying that without resolving Palestine conflict, there would be no normalisation.
