Retaliation for Different Assassinations: Iran Fires Dozens of Missiles at Israel

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has launched a significant missile attack targeting Israel, what it described as crucial “military sites in the occupied Palestinian Territories”. This retaliation, reported by IRNA, follows a series of high-profile assassinations attributed to Israel.

On Tuesday evening, the IRGC announced it had commenced its missile strikes, confirming that dozens of missiles were fired from various locations across Iran, including Tehran, Isfahan, and Tabriz. Video footage’s showed the missiles soaring into the sky, marking a dramatic escalation in hostilities.

The IRGC stated that this offensive was in direct response to the recent killings of key figures, including Ismail Haniyeh and Hassan Nasrallah, alongside IRGC commander Abbas Nilforushan. The military body condemned what it termed the “crimes” committed by Israel in both Palestine and Lebanon.

In its statement, the IRGC underscored that the missile strikes targeted the “heart of the occupied territories,” reflecting Iran’s stance on defending its sovereignty and its allies, as reported by IRNA. They warned that any retaliation from Israel could provoke even more severe responses.

The IRGC’s declaration of retaliation follows a period of restraint in light of alleged Israeli aggressions, particularly concerning the assassination of Dr. Ismail Haniyeh and the actions of the Israeli regime against Lebanese and Palestinian populations.

The situation remains tense, with both sides poised for further conflict in this volatile region.

Responding to the barrage of missiles, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said the Israeli military is “fully prepared to defend and retaliate” to the attack, and stressed that it would be in a “timely manner”.

Meanwhile, White House officials said President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are monitoring the attack from the White House Situation Room and receiving regular updates from their national security team. President Biden has also directed the US military to aid Israel’s defence against Iranian attacks and shoot down missiles that are targeting Israel.
