In the Islamic-Arab Summit held on Saturday, Saudi Arabia, its neighboring country United Arab Emirates and seven other countries blocked the proposal to snap all ties with Israel, reports Mint.

The proposal submitted included severing all ties with Telviv including diplomatic and economic relations. And they have also decided on threatening to use oil as a means of leverage to achieve ceasefire in Gaza, claims Ehud Ya’ari, the Arab affairs analyst of Israel news platform Channel 12.

The countries which shot down the proposal are Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Sudan, Morocco, Mauritana and Djibouti, as per the report. But no details of the proposal was added into the report issued after the summit.

As per Reuters, Algeria has moved a proposal seeking completely severing ties with Israel but was shot down by other Arab countries citing the importance of keeping the channels of communication with Tel Aviv amid the ongoing crisis.

Initially, Saudi Arabia decided to host a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) on November 11 and the Arab League Summit on November 12. But considering the intensity of humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Saudi decided to host a combined summit on November 11 in Riyadh.

The summit on Saturday condemned “Israel’s aggression on the Gaza strip, war crimes and barbaric and inhumane by the occupation government. The summit has also called for an end to the siege on Gaza, allowing humanitarian aid into the enclave and halting arms exports to Israel, following the meeting in Riyadh.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that an international summit shall be called to find a lasting solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. “What we need in Gaza is not pauses for couple of hours, rather we need a permanent ceasefire,” he added.

While, Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani questioned ‘for how long the international community will treat Israel as if it is above international law’.
