
Sharjah Waives Traffic Fines Over 10 Years Old, Sets Deadline for Impounded Vehicles (image-pixabay)
The Sharjah government has announced waiving of traffic fines older than 10 years. The key decision was made on Tuesday during the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) meeting chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council.
As per the decision made during the meeting, all the violations recorded by the authority at the Sharjah Police General Command will be dropped if 10 years have passed since the date of the violation. In addition, the decision also stipulates a fee of Rs 1,000 for submitting a request to waive traffic violations.

However, the authorities have mentioned specific exemptions where this fee would not apply. These are as f0llows:
- If the vehicle owner has passed away, with proof of death provided.
- If the owner has been outside the country for at least 10 consecutive years.
- If the vehicle was abandoned and it is impossible to reach the owner.
- The motorists who wish to avail the cancellation are requested to provide documentation and pay the fee unless exempt under specified cases.
Apart from this, the Sharjah City Municipality has issued a notice to owners of vehicles that have been impounded for more than six months. “If you are one of those owners and haven’t completed the necessary steps to release your vehicle, now is the time to act,” reads the Sharjah Municipality notice on its social media accounts.

The municipality has urged the vehicle owners to visit the Inspection and Control Department located in Industrial Area 5 within the next four days from the date of announcement. Anyone failing to comply within the given time frame could face serious consequences. The municipality has warned that legal measures would be taken, including selling the impounded vehicles through a public auction.
