Due to the current stormy weather conditions across the country, characterised by rains, strong winds, thunder, lightning, and sometimes hail, UAE government has announced remote work for its offices. Along with the government offices, Dubai has asked private schools as well to work remotely on April 16. Some Emirates have already announced remote work for both April 16 and April 17.

“Based on the directives of the Council of Ministers, it was decided that tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16, will be remote work for all federal government employees, with the exception of jobs that require presence at the workplace, taking into account the weather condition that the country is going through,” an update posted by the UAE Media Office said.

“Due to upcoming weather conditions, we have instructed all Dubai Government entities and private schools to work remotely on Tuesday, April 16,” Hamdan bin Mohammed, an Emirati royal and politician who has been the Crown Prince of Dubai since 2008, announced on X on Monday.

In another announcement, the Emirates School Education Foundation has also decided to adopt distance learning system for all government schools in the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, corresponding to April 16 and 17, 2024, in order to preserve the safety of students and teaching staff.

According to the UAE Weather Department, starting Monday afternoon, coastal and inland regions will experience convective cloud formation, resulting in rainfall, occasional lightning, and thunder. Unstable weather conditions will develop in Western areas from Monday evening until Tuesday afternoon, gradually spreading towards Abu Dhabi, Northern, and Eastern regions. This will lead to increased convective clouds, accompanied by varying intensities of rainfall, lightning, thunder, and a chance of hail in some areas. Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, another wave of unsettled weather will affect scattered regions across the country, with increased convective cloud activity and rainfall. Cloud formations will persist over Eastern and Northern areas from Wednesday afternoon, gradually diminishing by night.
